What Worship Means to Us

At Emmanuel Lutheran Church we engage in the joyous worship of our Lord and Savior through a traditional worship style.

Our Service utilizes the Divine Worship format as found in The Lutheran Worship (Blue) Hymnal.

The hymns coming from the same resource reflects the theme of the day based on the choice of sermon text.

If you are unfamiliar with this worship setting one of our members will be happy to help you navigate our service to help minimize any awarkwardness you may feel.

We chant the Introit and Gradual parts of our service which are found in the bulletin that you will receive that day.

We have a children's sermon during which children of all ages are invited to come forward. If you would like your child to come forward but they are hesitant to go without another family member we encourage an older family member to sit with the child for the message.

During the general prayers the worship leader will say prayers on behalf of the entire congregation. If you have a prayer request for the deacon to include in this time just let him know and he will be happy to pray for the individual and/or circumstances you have requested. After raising those petitions the leader will say "and all those we lift to you now". At this point members of the congregation may pray silently or one at a time they may speak their prayer out loud. No one is required to pray out loud. It is not considered a reflection on your spiritual life to pray silently or quietly listen to the petitions of others. Feel free to participate during this time however, you feel most comfortable.

We observe Holy Communion every Sunday. We practice "Close Communion". If you share our beliefs concerning Holy Communion we invite you to share this sacrament with us. To see the specifics of our beliefs concerning Holy Communion and other aspects of faith life please see the section "We Confess" page of this web site.

Those attending our services wear anything from a shirt and tie to short sleeve shirt and jeans for gentlemen. The women range from nice dresses to a nice top and jeans.

The age range of those who attend our congregation includes newborn infants to the World War II generation.

Come worship with us this Sunday!
